Shetland Museum

  • Sector : leisure
  • Client : Shetland Amenity Trust
  • Project : Shetland Museum, Hays Dock, Lerwick
  • Value : £800k
  • Duration : 16 weeks

The work areas were on the ground and 1st floor areas of the new Shetland Museum. The contract installation was very complex as all walls were curved and inter-locked with existing stone wall displays. A sample display case was initially manufactured and air tested to ensure it met the required specification for the storage of museum artefacts. Display plinths were then constructed in our 30,000sq ft factory and then shipped to Shetland via Aberdeen. The contract also comprised of bespoke joinery display items which again were manufactured in-house and shipped to Shetland for installation. There was also a graphic display package included in our works. The project was completed on time and on budget not withstanding the complexity of the works and logistics.

The museum has received a number of awards: GIA Award (2007); Wood Award 2008 (Gold Award); and was also shortlisted for the prestigious Arts Fund Prize 2008.
